PLANNING · A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

A weekly habit tracker
for your actual week.

A useful checklist tells you what to do and when it counts as done. Start there. You don’t need to fill every square.

Make “done” specific.

“Get better at guitar” is a direction. “Practice chord changes for 10 minutes” is something you can check off. Keep the ambition. Make the action clear enough that you don’t have to negotiate with yourself afterward.

Try this sentence: On [days], after [something that already happens], I will [one specific action]. For example: on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, after dinner, I’ll practice for 10 minutes.

Choose the days before you count them.

A habit you intend to do three times a week needs three planned check-ins, not seven. Unplanned days are not misses. If your week shifts, move a session deliberately and keep the same weekly intention.

Start with one or two habits that matter to you. More boxes can wait until you know whether the first plan fits your life.

TRY YOUR PLAN

One habit. This week.

Select the days you plan to do it. You can print the checklist and mark it as you go.

Planned days

3 planned days this week.

This example stays on this page and resets when you leave. Nothing is sent to Habits.

Review the plan, not just the boxes.

At the end of the week, ask which days were easy to keep and which repeatedly got squeezed out. If Wednesday didn’t happen, was the time wrong, was the action too big, or did something unexpected come up?

Change one thing for next week. You might move practice before dinner or shorten it on busy days. A tracker gives you a record to think with; checking a box alone does not tell you how much your playing improved.

Keep the goal in the picture.

Alongside your check-ins, choose an occasional progress check that relates to your goal: play the chord change smoothly, finish a chapter, or reread the section you wrote. Track the practice and notice what it is helping you do.
